Roffey Homes Takes Full Control of Union Gardens In Worthing

Following a vote by Worthing Borough Council on 14th January, we’re delighted to announce we are assuming sole control of the Union Place development in the town centre. The decision to sell the land to us will speed up the construction of the Union Gardens residences – a vital step in delivering new homes for Worthing.

In 2022, we formed a partnership with Worthing Borough Council to revitalise the long-dormant Union Place site, which was once home to the town’s police station. The council’s decision to sell the site outright to us will now fast-track the development and transform it into a vibrant, sustainable community. With planning permission already in place, we will be starting construction later this year, with completions expected from early 2028 onwards.

Union Place is identified in the Worthing Local Plan as a key site for new homes in the area. As local authorities across the country face numerous financial pressures, allowing developers to take ownership of projects like Union Gardens will accelerate the delivery of these much-needed residences.

Union Gardens will comprise 216 one, two, and three-bedroom apartments across four buildings, designed with our commitment to innovation and meticulous craftsmanship. Each apartment features private outdoor space and offers exclusive access to the residents’ lounge. A standout feature will be the three first-floor-level gardens that give the development its name. Beneath these elegantly landscaped gardens, a 236-space car park will provide parking for both residents and public use. Union Gardens will also include 23 apartments available for shared ownership.

As with all our developments, sustainability will be a guiding principle of Union Gardens, with enhanced insulation, biodiverse roofs, and a proposed connection to the Worthing Heat Network – a pioneering initiative delivering sustainable heating across the borough. These features will hopefully provide residents with lower utility bills amid ongoing cost-of-living challenges.

By changing our approach to the project, we are enabling Roffey Homes to bring this vision to life as soon as possible.”
