Since our establishment in 1960, we’ve aimed to build communities, not just homes. With every new development, we strive to contribute positively to the surrounding area, creating residences that both buyers and locals can be proud of.
Our track record demonstrates our commitment to fuelling the growth and prosperity of Sussex. In 2024, we commissioned a report to estimate the economic contribution of our completed and future developments between 2000 and 2028. Here are the highlights from the report…
More than 1,000 new homes built
By 2028, we will have built 1,055 new residences, from starter homes and affordable homes through to luxury flats and houses. A lack of supply of good-quality housing stock is a frequent hot topic within the property market, so this significant contribution helps address the urgent need for housing options in the area.
£413m invested in construction
When all completed and planned developments between 2000 and 2028 are combined, our investment in construction projects will total an estimated £413 million, with £281 million already completed and £132 million planned for future developments.
Nearly 6,000m2 of commercial floorspace
We will have created 5,971 sq m of commercial floorspace by 2028, including an 81-room hotel. This mixed-use approach contributes to the thriving business community here in Sussex and helps create lively, vibrant neighbourhoods.
Gross annual economic benefits of £28.8 million
Our projects from 2000 to 2028 will have contributed a total of £28.8 million annually to the local economy (using 2023 prices). This includes £16.6 million of annual direct benefit and £12.2 million of annual gross spending by residents in the local economy.
Employment, skills and job creation
A key part of our ethos is working with local businesses and tradespeople, and our projects have generated substantial employment opportunities:
- 1,701 gross temporary construction jobs from completed developments
- 281 gross permanent jobs from completed projects
- Potential for 553 additional gross temporary construction jobs and 197 gross permanent jobs from proposed developments
Our commitment to supporting the development of skills, learning and training opportunities is evident in the initiatives included in both our completed and planned developments. Upon completion of the current planned projects, in total we should have delivered:
- 257 work placements
- 116 Careers Education, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG) events
- 186 NVQ qualified trainees
- 121 SME training plans
These employment and training opportunities contribute to the economic well-being of individuals and families in the community.
Fiscal contributions
Our developments have generated substantial fiscal benefits for local authorities:
- £1.49 million in annual fiscal benefits from completed projects
- Potential for an additional £0.68 million annually from proposed developments
- £9.5 million in one-off Section 106/Community Infrastructure Levy [1] payments (in 2023 prices)
- These contributions help fund essential local services and infrastructure improvements
Continuing to shape the Sussex skyline…
In summary, our work from 2000 to 2028 demonstrates how strategic property development can act as a catalyst for local economic growth, job creation, and community cohesion.
Our developments are always meticulously planned, with the needs of the local community kept firmly in mind. And by delivering a mix of residential and commercial projects, we’re proud to have created a lasting impact on the Sussex coast region. The combination of direct job creation, increased resident spending, and fiscal contributions to local authorities further highlight the wealth of benefits of our well-rounded approach.
As we continue to deliver carefully considered developments, we hope to further increase our contributions to the area – helping to build a bright future for Sussex, with more homes, jobs and economic growth on the horizon.
