For the duration of the Union Gardens construction period, we are allocating £12,000 each year to help local organisations, such as schools, charities and businesses. This means that over the next three years, a total of £36,000 in funding will be available to support the Worthing community that has been our home since the very beginning.
As part of this community funding programme, we are proud to sponsor a new reduced parking initiative, ‘Three After Three’. This allows visitors to park at the High Street and Buckingham Road multi-storey car parks for just £3, from 3pm until 10pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Paul O’Brien owns the I Love Candy sweetshop and has traded in the town centre for the past 18 years. He represents small traders alongside Worthing Borough Council and the Worthing Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID), working on initiatives to bring more footfall into local shops and businesses.
Paul explains how the ‘Three After Three’ scheme came about: ‘We have encouraged the council to create a reduced parking offer, to bring extra people into the town at the time when most traders say they see slower footfall into their shops.’ It is hoped that cheaper parking will help more shoppers and families enjoy the town centre in the late afternoons and early evenings.
The trial period began on 7th September and will run for two months.
